Target Industries

Johnston County, NC is home to a diverse and growing industry base. As part of our economic development efforts, we work to continue to grow specific target industries that align well with our regional workforce, available infrastructure and natural environment. Johnston County welcomes all kinds of companies across a wide range of industries. If your sector isn’t reference below, please don’t worry. We would welcome the opportunity to speak to you about how our community might be a match for your business goals.

Advanced Manufacturing

Possibly the broadest of our industry targets, we define advanced manufacturing as those companies that rely on current or innovative technologies on their manufacturing process. This might be the robotics in an automotive components facility, the computers and software that manage a prototyping or additive manufacturing process, or even companies in traditional manufacturing fields that have come to embrace technology to help them become better/ faster/ cheaper.

Life Sciences

The life science industry is thriving in the Research Triangle Region. And Johnston County is home to some of the largest biopharma manufacturing facilities in the world. For proof, just take a quick drive down US Hwy 70 near Clayton. There you will find both Spanish-owned Grifols and Danish-owned Novo Nordisk. Both corporations are making major investments in the area and seem to be on a constant hiring spree. Johnston County is a founding member of the BioPharma Crescent, a five county consortium that promotes Eastern North Carolina as an outstanding location for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Warehouse & Distribution

Johnston County sits at the intersection of two major Interstates, I-95 (North/South) and I-40 (East/West) at the mid-point of the eastern seaboard. It’s also only 100 miles (all interstate miles) from deepwater Port of Wilmington. This location and incredible transportation assets, combined with its proximity to one of the fastest growing regions in the US, makes it an outstanding choice for warehouse and distribution operations.
