Smithfield, NC — The events of the past several days have been unprecedented and unnerving to us all. The Emergency Management team, as well as the professionals at Johnston County Health Department, have already been actively engaged in preparing for whatever ways the Coronavirus may impact our county and our citizens.
I have today initiated a proclamation for a State of Emergency in Johnston County primarily because of procedural and logistical requirements for expedited assistance from state and federal aid agencies. Our team feels that this declaration will strategically position our local emergency management personnel to receive necessary equipment and supplies more quickly.
In past instances of natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, ice storms, and other adverse events, Johnston County citizens have rallied together and helped each other through difficult times. I want to let everyone know that we have a dedicated team of caring professionals and we are all committed to being 100% transparent in dealing with questions, concerns and challenges.
Our board members, along with all elected leaders in Johnston County, consider the health and well-being of our citizens to be our top priority. Johnston County citizens have always pulled together in difficult times. I feel confident that with diligence, good faith and open communications, we can weather this crisis as well.
